Enterprise Episode Guide - Season One Episode: 1 & 2
Broken Bow
Mission Date: April 16th 2151
In April of 2151, 88 years to the month after Zefram Cochrane launched the Phoenix and made First Contact with the Vulcans, the prototype Warp 5 starship named Enterprise NX-01 was a few weeks away from its scheduled first launch when something unusual happened: a spacefaring courier from a species called "Klingon" crash-landed in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Starfleet's Vulcan advisors tried to take charge and handle this interstellar incident themselves, but the captain assigned to command the NX-01, Jonathan Archer, insisted that it was the humans' responsibility to return this alien to his homeworld alive. Over the Vulcans' objections, Starfleet granted Captain Archer permission to launch early, his first mission being to take the Klingon, named Klaang, to Kronos.

The mission hit a snag, however, as Enterprise was raided in mid-space by a group of genetically enhanced Suliban who kidnapped Klaang. Refusing to relent and go home with their tail between their legs, Archer and his crew investigated certain clues that led them to planet Rigel X. There Archer encountered a Suliban woman named Sarin, whom Klaang had visited before he ended up on Earth. Sarin was a former member of the "Cabal," a group of Suliban soldiers taking orders "from the future," she claimed. Sarin informed Archer that Klaang was carrying proof to his people that the Suliban were covertly staging attacks within the Klingon Empire to incite a civil war as part of a "Temporal Cold War." Wanting to put a stop to the Cabal, Sarin offered to help Archer locate Klaang, but she was soon killed by fellow Suliban during a firefight that also left Archer injured. Enterprise proceeded to track a Suliban vessel leaving the planet, which led them to a gas giant where a Suliban base called a "Helix" was hidden in the atmosphere. With reason to believe Klaang was aboard this Helix, the crew managed to capture a Suliban cell-ship, which Archer and his right-hand man Commander Tucker used to embark upon a rescue mission. They did find the Klingon, but in the ensuing confusion got separated, so while Tucker took Klaang back to Enterprise, Archer found himself in a face-off with a Suliban leader named Silik. The encounter was strangely personal, and revealed that Silik was involved in the manipulation of time. Silik tried to kill Archer and the two struggled, but Archer was saved when Enterprise retrieved him using the barely-tested biotransport platform.

Enterprise finally made it to Kronos, where the Klingon leaders extracted Sarin's tell-tale data from Klaang's DNA. Rather than being thankful to Archer, however, the Klingon Chancellor was quite hostile toward him. But the good news for the Enterprise crew was, Starfleet officially gave the order for them to begin their mission of exploration, representing mankind's first foray into the deeper reaches of space.
