The strange circumstances of Enterprise's first mission revisited the crew as the "Temporal Cold War" came aboard the starship. It started when Enterprise navigated into a stellar nursery and made contact with a transport vessel carrying a group of alien pilgrims coming to witness what they called "The Great Plume of Agosoria," a protostar which emits a tremendous burst of energy every 11 years. While the Enterprise crew hosted the pilgrims aboard their ship, a plasma lightning storm erupted and damaged the warp manifold, causing an antimatter cascade that would have travelled to the reactor and destroyed the ship, except for the fact that it was mysteriously interrupted. Commander Tucker learned that a conduit was intentionally disconnected, which is what stopped the cascade, but no one took responsibility for that action. Captain Archer was later approached by Crewman Daniels, a steward aboard Enterprise, who claimed he was not actually a member of Starfleet, but a time traveller from 900 years in the future. Daniels told Archer that the 22nd century was a front in the so-called Temporal Cold War, and backed up his claim by showing him a "temporal observatory" he kept in his quarters. He further revealed that Silik, the Suliban soldier Archer fought during his first mission, was aboard Enterprise disguised as one of the pilgrims, and he was the one who stopped the cascade. Daniels was sent to capture Silik, and he needed Enterprise's power and equipment to help track him down.
Although Silik supposedly saved the ship, Archer decided to cooperate with Daniels, and recruited Tucker and T'Pol into the effort. Archer was later ambushed in his quarters by Silik, who insisted he was there to stop someone else from altering history. Archer denied any contact with someone from the future, but Silik learned anyway by accident that Daniels was his foe. Silik found Daniels in Engineering and fired his weapon, apparently killing him. Archer discovered that Silik had stolen the "temporal observatory" from Daniels' quarters, and deduced that was his real mission there. Archer used a futuristic phasing device left behind by Daniels to walk through the bulkhead walls and track down Silik, and they fought as the "Plume of Agosoria" erupted and rocked the ship. Silik managed to flee into the Launch Bay, but Archer followed and succeeded in destroying the temporal device in his possession. Silik escaped out the Launch Bay into the vacuum of space and was picked up by a Suliban cell ship. Archer opted not to give chase, as Silik failed to get what he came for anyway. Archer then ordered Daniels' quarters to be sealed off indefinitely, to prevent access to any other futuristic equipment that might remain within.
