Enterprise Episode Guide - Season One Episode: 15
Shadows of P'Jem
Mission Date: 2151
The complexities of dealing with species in conflict (particularly when one of those species is the Vulcans) came into focus on this mission, as Captain Archer faced the consequences of his actions at the Vulcan monastery of P'Jem. Following Archer's discovery of a surveillance station below P'Jem, the monastery was destroyed. Angered by the fact that Archer shared his findings with the Andorians, the Vulcan High Command decided to remove Sub-commander T'Pol from her position on Enterprise. Though T'Pol had been a part of the crew for over six months at this point — longer than any Vulcan officer previously posted to a human starship — it looked as if her days on the ship were numbered. With only two days remaining, Archer asked T'Pol to accompany him on a mission to the capital city of the planet Coridan.

On their way to the surface, their shuttlepod came under attack, and Archer and T'Pol were taken prisoner. Their captors turned out to be Coridan rebels seeking to displace the current government, which is kept in power by the Vulcans. Back on Enterprise, Commander Tucker was contacted by one of the kidnappers, who demanded weapons in exchange for the crewman. As Tucker debated over what to do, the Vulcan ship Ni'Var arrived to collect T'Pol. Upon hearing of the situation, the Vulcan captain, Sopek, suggested a bold rescue mission, and advised the Enterprise crew to keep out of the way. Tucker and Lt. Reed, however, discreetly mounted a search for the captain and T'Pol, and were also abducted — by Shran and Tholos, two of the Andorians Enterprise came into conflict with at P'Jem. The Andorians explained that while they support the Coridan rebels, Shran felt indebted to Archer because of the P'Jem incident.

Shran, Tholos, Tucker and Reed set out to free Archer and T'Pol, but their mission was disrupted by Sopek's rescue attempt, and the Enterprise crewman and the Andorians were caught in a crossfire between the Coridan rebels and Vulcan commandos. Luckily, Shran and Tucker managed to free the hostages, and Shran returned the scanner with the incriminating evidence from P'Jem. Though the Vulcans managed to overpower the Coridan rebels, one of them regained consciousness and aimed a gun at Sopek. T'Pol threw herself in front of the Vulcan captain, and was severely injured. Back on Enterprise, she was treated by Dr. Phlox, and Archer convinced Sopek to appeal to the Vulcan High Command on her behalf. Because of her heroic actions, T'Pol was allowed to stay on Enterprise.
