Enterprise Episode Guide - Season One Episode: 16
Shuttlepod One
Mission Date: November 9th 2151
When circumstance stranded Commander Tucker and Lt. Reed far from Enterprise, the two officers learned firsthand the dangers of shuttlepod missions. During one such mission, Tucker and Reed's craft was jolted, leaving the sensor array and com system disabled. They attempted to return to Enterprise, but it appeared that the ship had been destroyed. In actuality, it was another ship that was destroyed and Enterprise was transporting the passengers back to their homeworld.

Tucker and Reed assumed the worst, however, and Tucker set a course to the nearest subspace amplifier, Echo Three. Unfortunately, the crewmen only had ten days of air left, and knew that at impulse speed they would never be able to get a distress beacon out in time to be rescued. While Tucker attempted to restore the shuttlepod's systems, Reed logged farewell letters to family, friends and ex-girlfriends. En route, another jolt left them with only two days of air. Tucker devised a way to divert power from the temperature regulator to the atmosphere recyclers, buying them another half day. As they waited in vain for a rescue, they were forced to endure the freezing cold.

Huddling in the icy shuttlepod, Reed and Tucker reminisced about the brave crewmembers of Enterprise. They were interrupted, however, by a hail from the ship, transmitting new rendezvous coordinates. Though the crewmen were elated to hear that the ship wasn't destroyed, they had no way to get a message back to Enterprise — and only a day of air left. Desperate, the two men jettisoned the pod's impulse engine rigged to self-destruct, hoping that the explosion would attract Enterprise's attention. It did, and Tucker and Reed were rescued with only a few hours of air remaining.
