Enterprise Episode Guide - Season One Episode: 17
Fusion
Mission Date: November 2151
The crew of Enterprise gained some more insight into the diversity of a race previously thought relatively staid. While en route to the Arachnid Nebula, the ship encountered a very unusual group of Vulcans — they are referred to by the elders as "V'tosh ka'tur" or "Vulcans without logic." The ship's captain, Tavin, explained that they are merely on a pilgrimage to find a balance between emotion and logic. Believing their methods to be dangerous, T'Pol was skeptical.

One of the Vulcans, Tolaris, took an interest in T'Pol. Tolaris noted that T'Pol's emotions were closer to the surface than most Vulcans, perhaps as a result of her time with humans — T'Pol spent two years at the Vulcan Consulate on Earth, and had been onboard Enterprise for seven months at this point. Tolaris suggested that she try not meditating before bed, posing it as a scientific experiment. T'Pol tried this, and was disturbed by a sensual, chaotic dream involving Tolaris. As T'Pol struggled to contain her burgeoning emotions, Admiral Forrest contacted Captain Archer with a message — the estranged, dying father of the Vulcan ship's engineer, Kov, wished to make peace with his son. Though Archer and Commander Tucker both tried to convince Kov otherwise, the Vulcan refused to contact his father.

Meanwhile, Tolaris attempted to aid T'Pol with her emotional awakening by performing an ancient technique known as a "mind-meld." As the two Vulcans shared their thoughts, T'Pol became uncomfortable, and insisted Tolaris end the meld. Tolaris, however, refused, and T'Pol had to force him away from her. The next day, Archer confronted Tolaris about his actions, sending the Vulcan into a violent rage. After Tolaris threw him across the room, Archer suggested the Vulcans be on their way. Before they left, however, Kov revealed to Tucker that he decided to contact his father after all.
