A large hand-held energy weapon used by Starfleet personnel. Due to the great power and utility of smaller phaser sidearms, phaser rifles are rarely necessary on Starfleet missions. The power settings available to the Type-III phasers are designated 1 to 16, which is virtually the same as the Type II phasers, but the power reserve in the Type-III is nearly 50 % greater.
