Annika Hansen was born on the Tendara Colony on Stardate 25479, and she and her parents were last reported to be leaving a remote outpost in the Omega sector, headed towards the Delta Quadrant in a small vessel, the S.S. Raven. It was later learned that the ship was attacked by the Borg, which makes it possible that the Hansen family were the first humans to ever be assimilated by the Borg Collective. Annika became "Seven of Nine" as her individuality became one with the Collective
Seven "served" with the Borg for eighteen years, whereas her most recent assignment was as the "Tertiary Adjunct to Uni-matrix 01". When Capt. Janeway formed an agreement with the Borg, she was assigned to assist the Federation crew aboard the starship U.S.S. Voyager to develop a biologic weapon capable of defeating the extremely powerful Species 8472.
During an attack from Species 8472, the Borg cube accompanying Voyager was destroyed, and thus Seven of Nine attempted to assimilate Voyager. This proved to be a failure, resulting in severing her link with the Collective, and she was taken to sickbay where most of her implants were then removed by the Doctor, since her bionic implants were causing infections while attempting to preserve her assimilation. In total, eighty-two percent of her Borg hardware implants was extracted, and the remaining bio-implants have been stabilized and remains critical to her life support. Her left eye has been replaced by an artificial organ replacement, simulating her own organic eye.
As her human genes are regenerating and restoring her to near total humanity, and she is rediscovering her humanity, she decides to stay with the humans aboard Voyager, while trying to find her own sense of individuality.
She is now a passenger aboard the U.S.S. Voyager, which was presumed to be lost in the Badlands near the space station Deep Space Nine on Stardate 48315.6, but this was proven incorrect when contact was established with the ship via an alien communication network.
