Kathryn Janeway graduated from Starfleet Academy, and has since steadfastly worked her way up through the ranks to become a Captain of a starship. She served as Science Officer aboard the U.S.S. Al-Batani, during the Arias expedition in 2171, where she learned much from the then Captain Paris (the father of Lieutenant Tom Paris). The fact that she was present on this mission states that she is an impressive officer, as Capt. Paris has a reputation for choosing only the best.
She is a tough Captain, and is not afraid to take chances, and her intelligence, dedication, thoughtfulness and diplomacy has made her one of the most respected captains in Starfleet. Aside from mathematics and science, she studies among other things, chromo-linguistics, American Sign Language, and the gestural idioms of the Leyron, but for relaxation, she enjoys role-playing and recreation in Holodeck programs, such as Gothic novels, skiing and sailing.
Janeway was born on Earth, in Indiana, North America, and her parents were both scientists, her mother a mathematician and her father an astrophysicist, and she obviously inherited those characteristics. One thing she did not like in her youth, was her parents obsession on teaching her about gardening. The family also went on frequent backpacking trips.
She is now in command of the Starship U.S.S. Voyager NCC-74656, which was presumed to be lost in the Badlands near the space station Deep Space Nine on Stardate 48315.6, but this was proven incorrect when contact was established with the ship via an alien communication network.
| 1st appeared in Star Trek on Stardate 48315.6, in Star Trek: Voyager, Caretaker. |
