B'Elanna Torres began her career with an encouraging start at the Starfleet Academy, heading toward an engineering specialty, and in fact, one of her tutors, Professor Chapman, regarded her as one of the most promising students he had ever taught. But, despite her many talents, Torres' days at the Academy were cut short. After four disciplinary hearings and a suspension, she finally left before completing her second year, and carved a niche for herself in civilian life by joining the Maquis in its early stages.
B'Elanna was born on a Klingon colony on Kessick IV, and raised singlehandedly by her mother, since her fahter left them when she was only five.
Her Klingon half handicaps her with a temper she has great difficulty in controlling, and when she gets enraged, it becomes impossible to anticipate the consequences of her actions. However, she is gifted with a natural aptitude for engineering, and with a clear headed ability to solve technical problems. Her best friend was ex-Ensign Seska, until she was caught selling replicator technology to the Kazon Collective, whom she had allied herself with and finally joined on Stardate 48658.2. Seska died on Stardate 50032.7 during a failed attempt to steal the U.S.S. Voyager.
When she turns to recreation as an outlet, she has been know to play both hoverball and Parrises Squares.
She now serves as the Chief of Engineering on the Starship U.S.S. Voyager, which was presumed to be lost in the Badlands near the space station Deep Space Nine on Stardate 48315.6, but this was proven incorrect when contact was established with the ship via an alien communication network.
| 1st appeared in Star Trek on Stardate 48315.6, in Star Trek: Voyager, Caretaker. |
